A Beauty Review Moment – Target Beauty Box

It’s probably common knowledge by now that Target is a black hole. You walk in needing paper towels and come out happily with three carts full of stuff, the bulls eye logo sparkling in your eyes. I’m not sure if they have some sort of room spray going on that automatically sedates you or what, because once you enter you can’t help but stop and look at every. single. item.

So, naturally, as soon as I heard that Target released a beauty box I had to buy it! I was all too curious about it. A drugstore beauty box? Count me in.

The Target Beauty Box is a limited edition, one-time purchase thing.  Unlike the ipsy bag, there is no recurring subscription with it (at least for right now). The box itself is $7.00 (plus tax, with free shipping). Shipping was relatively slow (it took about a week after it shipped), but it was free so I guess it really doesn’t matter.

The packaging was adorable! A white-lidded box (which I will be repurposing for Christmas present wrapping) came with a sleeve embossed with the Target logo made from different beauty product swatches. The products themselves were wrapped in red tissue paper. The sweet “hello beautiful!” note has a $3.00 off of a $15.00 beauty purchase. Also included was a 20% off coupon for Dermstore.

Each of the products I received (which are the same for each box) were either full-sized or a deluxe size. The Target website states the box is a $28.00 value.

I was SUPER excited to try out these two products. The L’Oreal Elnett Hairspray and the Fekkai Blowout Hair Refresher Dry Shampoo have been on my beauty bucket list, so to speak, for a while now. The fact that they are included in the same box for an awesome price? Icing on the cake.

I tested out the Elnett Hairspray this morning to hold down my fly-a-way hairs that happen whenever I put my hair up into a ponytail. The first thing I noticed was the scent – amazing! You smell like you walked right out of a salon. It isn’t overwhelming though, so you don’t feel like you are swimming in a cloud of perfume all day. It’s been about ten hours since I sprayed my baby hairs down, and they are still perfectly in place. This hairspray also does not create a crunchy texture in your hair. It comes out of the can in a fine mist so it leaves your hair smooth and soft.

I haven’t had the chance to try out the Fekkai Dry Shampoo fully yet, but it also has a heavenly smell. I have darker hair, and it doesn’t seem to leave a white residue after being brushed out, which is awesome.

I thought the fact that Target included these two beauty products was hilarious. Red and white: subliminal messaging to shop at Target (as if I need anymore reason to do so). I’m sure they did not do that on purpose, but it made me giggle.

The NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk is cult-favorite product. I remember back in the day (aka 2010) on YouTube when all of the beauty gurus would gush over this eye pencil. I’m super excited to work with this! I’m thinking that this would be a great base to make lighter colors more intense. This could awesome be a good brow/inner corner highlight.

The L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Extraordinaire in Ruby Opera is more than just a mouthful. It’s a beautiful lipstick/gloss hybrid much akin to ones that have been popping up all over the place lately (YSL Glossy Stain, Maybelline Color Elixir, etc.). The color is a pink-red that has fully opaque coverage and lasts on the lips for hours and hours. The only downside is that I noticed it feathering multiple times past the lip line. I think this could be easily fixed by a lip liner or some concealer around the lips after you apply it, but I have yet to mess around with it. It is a little disappointing given that it is such a beautiful color – and perfect for the holidays.

The Laneige BB Cushion is the only product I did not touch before swatching it for the pictures. I’m not much for BB Cream, Foundation, Concealer, etc., but this is one of the more interesting concepts I’ve seen for such a product. The product (which is exclusively available at Target) sample comes with each of the three shades soaked into a sponge. You also receive a clean sponge that is used for application. It didn’t swatch smoothly on the skin when I tried it, but it could also just be the fact that it is a smaller size and is difficult to get a lot of product out. Let me know what you think if you have tried this product!

Have you tried the Target Beauty Box? If you have, let me know what you think. I will personally be grabbing another once they release the next! $7.00 is a bargain for the amount and quality of products you receive.

I have signed up for the Walmart Beauty Box to see how they measure up, but I won’t be receiving that until Winter.

Hope you guys have a great week! Thanks for reading, as always.
