An ipsy Moment – November 2014

Happy ipsy bag time again!

I’m loving November’s bag so far. They have been on a roll these past couple of months with their product choices.

In case you are new, ipsy is a $10-a-month beauty subscription box that offers a new bag each month filled with makeup, skin care, and hair products. If you are interested in learning more, you can check out ipsy or visit my post on it!

On to the review!

First of all, the bag is super cute! The theme this month was something to do with glitter (I can’t quite remember what it was exactly), but if that’s the case then they nailed it with the bag! It’s silver, sparkly, and the bag is actually by Forever 21. While I don’t particularly care for Forever 21 as much as I used to (anyone else buy a shirt and immediately have it fall apart?), but I really love the bag. It’s going to be great for the holidays.

First product up: It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer in Natural Medium. I love when ipsy includes samples of high end products in its bags. I’m glad they sent this concealer to me because I don’t tend to splurge on them. I don’t particularly like wearing face makeup like foundation/concealer, so my collection is very light in this area. My favorite is the Maybelline Dream Lumi, but the It Cosmetics is nice when I want a fuller coverage. The color, however, is much too dark for me right now to be used as an under eye concealer. Overall, I think it’s a nice product and those who regularly use concealer will appreciate it. A full-sized one is $24.00, and this sample is worth $9.43. The tube is pretty small, but there is a lot of product in there.

The next thing ipsy sent me was the Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco Hair Spray. I feel kind of whatever about hairspray in general, but I did like this one. The only things I really look for in a hairspray are that they don’t make my hair stiff/crunchy and that they smell nice. This product hits both of those, plus it has decent lasting power. This isn’t something I would probably repurchase, but I enjoyed trying it out. The size is also perfect for travel. A full-size is $8.99, and this sample is worth $1.53.

Up next is the J. Cat Wonder Lip Paint in Mad Splatter. For once, ipsy NAILED the color for me. Normally they like to send me baby pinks, which are nice for everyday, but I much prefer fuchsias and brighter pinks. This is such a gorgeous color! It’s a fuchsia that has a pretty blue sheen to it when it hits the sunlight. The product itself is akin to the OCC Lip Tars (which is initially what I thought they had sent me); it is a liquid lipstick that works best when you apply it with a brush. It’s not sticky, but a little goes a looong way. Use restraint when applying this. The color isn’t drying, and it lasts for hours before you need to reapply. This is full-sized, as well, which retails for $4.99.

This is the only product I did not get a chance to try out. The Sea Rx Birchsap Moisturizing Lotion just isn’t something that interests me. It’s a simple non-greasy lotion that has a pleasant citrus scent. Something to note: The sample states this is not for women who are nursing/pregnant, so if that includes you and you received this, you may want to pass it along to a friend. A full-size will run you $32.00, and this sample is worth a couple of dollars at most (there’s no amount of product listed on the sample).

This last product was a sleeper hit for me. The Starlooks Gem Pencil in Ultra Olive was not something I was expecting to like. I had watched various YouTube videos reviewing these pencils in the past, and they all said that they were dry and painful to apply. So, I wasn’t expecting much with this, but was very pleasantly surprised! The Gem Pencil was very creamy, and the color is beautiful. It’s a nice olive green, like the name suggests, with plenty of gold sparkle. I don’t have anything like this in my collection, and I think this will look very nice with my brown eyes. This is full-sized, which costs a whopping $17.00.

Totally loved this months bag, minus the lotion sample which was just meh. I’m beyond excited to see what they do for December. Also, hopefully these pictures aren’t blurry for you. They are looking a little funky on my computer, but it just might be my screen.

New posts are coming through the rest of the week! Look out for Sephora reviews, a fashion post, and Christmas gift guides.
