Long time no post everyone! School has just been INSANE this semester. I’m not sure if it’s just because I am now a sophomore or what, but between work, school, and writing for the paper, I have been swamped.
Luckily though I have some time today to share with you some things that I have been loving recently! Most of them are beauty products. I also happened to notice that everything I was gravitating toward these past few weeks were different shades of pink and red. It reminded me of Valentine’s Day. Can you believe that it is only 12 days away? I’m pretty sure Christmas was just yesterday…
I’ve always loved Valentine’s Day even though I’ve ever had a Valentine (#foreveralone). I know there are people out there who hate it because it’s pretty much just a Hallmark holiday, but I’ve always thought it was sweet. Plus, there’s candy involved, so that can never be a bad thing. One of my favorite Valentine’s Day memories was decorating shoe boxes every year in elementary school to bring in for collecting cards. Picking out the Valentine’s that I would bring was also an ordeal every year – it’s harder to choose between Disney Princess and Sponge Bob than it looks, folks.
I’m sure this year will be just as low-key (and freezing) as it is every year. But, if you are doing something special with someone special, I am planning on posting a What to Wear look book this weekend!
Here are my recent must-haves:
1. Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara in Blackest Black // 2. Burt’s Bees Replenishing Lip Balm // 3. Physician’s Formula Argan Wear Blush in Natural // 4. NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Face Powder in Sunny // 5. Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer in Pink Ruby // 6. Stila Convertible Color in Tulip // 7. Besame Classic Color Lipstick in Red Velvet // 8. EOS Lip Balm in Pomegranate Raspberry // 9. Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in Petunia
All of these products are great, but if you can only afford to grab one or two, I 100% would buy the Besame Red Velvet Lipstick and the NYC Smooth Skin Bronzer.
Besame Cosmetics is a brand that I never heard of until I watched Agent Carter (which I’m naturally obsessed with since I love the Captain America movies; I am also planning on doing a Get the Look from this). Hayley Atwell plays Peggy Carter and has the prettiest vintage makeup on the show. I love anything from the 1940s so this show is right up my alley (you should watch, too – Chad Michael Murray is in it, if that makes a difference).
Anyways, Hayley Atwell tweeted pictures of the nail polish and lipstick she wore during the show. I hunted down her polish, O.P.I Cinnamon Sweet, at Ulta (for a whopping $1.50 on clearance) and then promptly ordered the lipstick from the Besame website.
This is a website that I will be 100% ordering from again. The lady who created the brand, Gabriela Hernandez, recreates vintage products used back from the 1920s-1960s with FDA-approved safe pigments and ingredients. Everything – from the lipsticks themselves to the packaging – is hand-molded and hand-designed. Whenever she wants inspiration for a new product, she shops at vintage stores and them recreates formulas and colors based off of what she finds. I think it’s so cool to have such a classic piece in your makeup collection – and one that resembles something you’d actually find back in the day, too.
The NYC Sunny Bronzer, on the other hand, is probably the best bronzer I have ever tried. I used to swear by NARS Laguna, but I hated shelling out that much for it. This one can be found for under $5.00 at most places, but it works like a $50.00 one. It’s natural, matte, and absolutely will not turn you into a walking Cheeto. The compact has a great mirror inside, too.
The next thing I am beyond excited about this month is my new hair! I decided to chop it all off, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. I’ve worn it long for as long as I can remember, so it was more than time for a change. I decided to take a walk on the wild side and let my sister cut my hair. For her first time, I’d say she did great. I’m experimenting with different ways to style it now, so if you have some short hair tips let me know!
One of the major reasons why I decided to chop it off is because we will be heading somewhere warm for spring break…A Disney cruise! Having a spring break is still a strange concept to me. I am used to trudging through the winter with nothing to really look forward to. But I think I will manage with a break. 😉
My family was debating on where to visit, and my dad mentioned taking a Disney Bahamian Cruise. We traveled on the Disney Dream on that itinerary in August 2013 as my graduation present – it was a blast. We were all down for it and were going to do the four day one where you get an extra day at sea. As my dad was looking through the details, I decided to goof around and do a Caribbean search. Well, I found the one that we ended up booking: a 7-Night Western Caribbean Cruise, Itinerary A. It’s on their newly renovated ship, the Disney Magic. There’s an Avengers kids section that I need to check out (I don’t care that it’s only for ages up to 12. Someone is bound to feel bad for me and let me in). Also, you apparently can meet Captain America. It’s basically a dream come true.
We got a total steal on this because we choose to have them assign us a room rather than pick our own. We really will only be in the room to sleep and shower, so it’s not a big deal for us where we are. God has blessed our family to be able to have the opportunity to go on this trip.
Typically we book vacations 6+ months in advanced, but we have a much shorter time frame now. I’m so antsy, waiting for it to get here! I am planning on doing a packing post, as well as a psuedo-travel diary.
Do you have any upcoming trips that you are excited about? As always, thanks for reading!
