Long time no blog. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday with their loved ones. I had a blast spending time with my friends and family, and I just got back yesterday from doing some traveling. It’s definitely been a busy end to the year, so I apologize for the lack of posts. But I’m back today with a new one and will be resuming my Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule from here on out!
Ah, the Kylie Lip Kit. This is perhaps one of the most hyped=up, talked-about beauty products of 2016. For anyone who knows me, I’m not a fan of the Kardashians at all and never saw myself purchasing one of these. But I grabbed one for a friend for Christmas and decided – in the name of beauty – to test one out as well.
I picked this up online over Black Friday, so I received a free lip gloss as a little gift. I went with Posie K, which is a really pretty mauve-y pink. Most of her collection consists of nudes, a red, and a couple of metallic shades.
The packaging is cute, albeit a bit childish looking. The famed Kylie Lip Kit comes with a liquid matte lipstick and a matching lip liner for $29. I think this price is definitely fair considering many liquid lipsticks by themselves run between $20-$30. If you are interested in one but not the other, you can purchase them separately for $17 and $14, respectively.
The color of Posie K is absolutely gorgeous, but I just don’t think I really like this product. The lip liner is really great – it’s creamy and it wears beautifully for hours without fading. But the liquid lipstick is so. drying. Holy cow. I even worse a lip balm underneath before applying it, and it still felt like my lips were going to shrivel off. The color is to die for, and it wore so well, basically for an entire day without reapplication. But it was uncomfortable, and I was definitely conscious that I had something on my lips all day.
Not to mention, this is the strongest scented lip product I own. It smells like cake, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I can smell it through the tube with the lid closed. Scents normally aren’t a deal-breaker for me with lip products, but this one is difficult to push past. It lingers for a while after you apply it.
The Posie K lip gloss, though, is fabulous. I freaking love it. It’s not sticky at all, it’s opaque in coverage, and the color is just stunning. It wears well for a gloss and leaves behind a really pretty stain so you don’t have to worry about awkward or patchy fading. Total thumbs up for the gloss! (Do be aware that the gloss is slightly pinker than the liquid lipstick is, though. I quite liked it regardless.) These run for $15.
All in all, I have so many more lipsticks that I love more than the Kylie matte liquid lipsticks. If I need something longwearing, I’ll reach for this one. But on a daily basis, I don’t see myself getting that much use out of it, and I don’t see myself purchasing another. The glosses, though, are great.
What do you guys think of the Kylie Lip Kits?
